Four RMC cadets dead in vehicle accident

A motor vehicle entering the water required water rescue services just after 2 am on Friday morning. Kingston Fire and Rescue and Frontenac Paramedic Services responded quickly to the scene and retrieved the driver and three passengers from the waterway. CFB Kingston Military Police arrived on scene shortly thereafter. The four, all later confirmed by DND to be RMC cadets, were declared dead at the scene on the campus of Royal Military College. Local media reported that Kingston Police and the Ontario Coroner’s Office could be seen on at Point Frederick Drive loading bodies into a van near RMC’s Fort Frederick Museum.

“The investigation is in its infancy and currently ongoing,” Kingston Police said in a preliminary statement. “At this time, Kingston Police is on scene to assist the investigating agency, the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service.”

Department of National Defence officials were busy contacting next of kin and investigating the accident before more information could be made public. Kingston Police have reportedly been called in to assist with the ongoing investigation.

“RMC’s first priority is to ensure our Naval and Officer Cadets, staff, faculty, and families are cared for and supported. This loss is felt across the RMC community and we extend our deepest condolences to all our members, their families, and their friends during this difficult time,” a media statement says.
