Construction work is underway in Bagotville
The Government of Canada is committed to providing the women and men of the Canadian Armed Forces with the support they need, including modern facilities where they can work and train safely. Two new buildings will be constructed at 3 Wing Bagotville. On behalf of the Minister of Defence, Harjit S. Sajjan, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Defence, Jean Rioux, and the Member for Chicoutimi – Le Fjord, Denis Lemieux, participated in a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the beginning of construction work.
These buildings will be used by the Transportation and Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (TEME) sections of the Wing. The TEME team is responsible for supporting base operations, especially the maintenance of heavy snow removal vehicles and maintenance of runways. These multi-functional and modern buildings will provide more work space to the sections, making their activities more rapid and efficient.
The contract for the construction of the two buildings and the deconstruction of the old buildings was awarded to Cegerco Inc. of Chicoutimi (Quebec), with a value of $46.9 million.
The new buildings will be primarily dedicated to the maintenance and storage of aircraft maintenance support equipment and heavy vehicles such as snow plows. These buildings will also include administrative areas and parking spaces.
Deconstruction, rather than demolition, of obsolete buildings allows the recycling of certain materials and limits the amount of waste.
The Government of Canada has made the sustainable management of its operations a priority. It has committed to use 100% electricity from renewable sources by 2025, and a 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
The new buildings will use materials and lighting that reduce the energy footprint. They will also have better air filtration and product drainage systems that reduce the impact of their activities in the workplace and on the environment.
This infrastructure project provides economic development opportunities to the local community by creating jobs for the region.
Des travaux de construction sont amorcés à Bagotville
Le gouvernement du Canada est déterminé à fournir aux femmes et aux hommes des Forces armées canadiennes le soutien dont ils ont besoin, y compris des installations modernes où elles peuvent travailler et s’entraîner de façon sécuritaire. Deux nouveaux bâtiments seront construits à la 3e Escadre Bagotville. Au nom du ministre de la Défense, Harjit S. Sajjan, le Secrétaire Parlementaire du ministre de la Défense, Jean Rioux, et le député pour Chicoutimi – Le Fjord, Denis Lemieux, ont pris part à la cérémonie d’inauguration soulignant le début travaux.
Ces bâtiments serviront aux sections du Transport et Génie électrique et mécanique (TGEM) de l’escadre. L’équipe de TGEM a pour responsabilité de soutenir les opérations de la base, surtout de la maintenance des véhicules lourds de déneigement et l’entretien des pistes. Ces bâtiments multi-fonctionnels et modernes fourniront plus d’espace de travail aux sections, rendant leurs activités plus efficaces et rapides.
Le contrat pour la construction des deux bâtiments, et pour la déconstruction des vieux bâtiments, a été octroyé à l’entreprise Cegerco Inc, de Chicoutimi (Québec) pour une valeur de 46,9 millions de dollars.
Les nouveaux bâtiments seront principalement dédiés aux activités de maintenance et à l’entreposage du matériel de soutien de maintenance d'aéronef et des véhicules lourds, comme les déneigeuses. Ces bâtiments comprendront également des aires d’administration et des places de stationnement.
La déconstruction, plutôt que la démolition, des bâtiments désuets permettra de recycler certains matériaux et de limiter la quantité de déchets.

Les nouveaux bâtiments utiliseront des matériaux et lumières réduisant l’empreinte écoénergétique. Ils possèderont aussi de meilleurs systèmes de filtration de l’air et de drainage des produits réduisant les effets de ses activités sur les lieux de travail et sur l’environnement.
Ce projet d’infrastructure fournit des avenues de développement économique à la collectivité locale, en créant des emplois pour la région.
