Representatives from industry and government joined Seaspan Shipyards as they celebrated the start of construction on the first Joint Support Ship for the Royal Canadian Navy. Defence Minister Harjit S. Sajjan participated in a steel-cutting ceremony.

Exercise Maple Flag, the Royal Canadian Air Force’s largest and most complex international training event of the year, begins next week in Cold Lake, Alberta. Taking place from June 11 – 22, Exercise Maple Flag will bring together nearly 1200 CAF personnel in participant or supporting roles, along with 540 personnel from allied nations along with multiple aircraft types.

The remains of a Canadian First World War soldier found at the site of a construction project in Lens, France, have been identified as Private John (Jack) Henry Thomas. At the age of 28, as member of the 26th Canadian Infantry Battalion (New Brunswick), he was fighting the Battle of Hill 70 when he was killed on 19 August 1917.

DND and the Canadian Armed Forces have identified the remains of three Canadian First World War soldiers found near the village of Vendin-le-Vieil, France, as Private William Del Donegan, Private Henry Edmonds Priddle, and Sergeant Archibald Wilson.

Defence Minister Harjit S. Sajjan will be in Colorado Springs to attend the NORAD and U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) Change of Command ceremony. USAF General Terrence J. O'Shaughnessy will replace outgoing Commander General Lori Robinson, who has provided exemplary leadership since 2016.

Lieutenant-General Wayne D. Eyre of the Canadian Armed Forces is the appointed Deputy Commander Designate of United Nations Command (UNC) Korea, the first non-US General Officer to hold the post in its 68-year existence. The appointment of Lieutenant-General Eyre demonstrates Canadian leadership and underlines Canada’s enhanced role in recent years in support of stability on the Korean Peninsula.

Defence Minister Harjit S. Sajjan introduced a Declaration of Victims’ Rights by tabling An Act to amend the National Defence Act and to make related and consequential amendments to other Acts. This new legislation also amends the National Defence Act to incorporate Indigenous sentencing considerations and enhance the efficiency of the military justice system.
