Treasury Board has approved a pay increase for General Officers, Flag Officers, Colonels and Captains (Navy), and legal officers. This follows pay increases for lower ranks that was announced in July 2017.

Following the tabling of the Auditor General’s report on Canada’s fighter force, the defence minister has issued a statement saying that his department and the Canadian Armed Forces are taking several steps to address both the report’s recommendations, and the broader concerns around the fighter force.

Defence Minister Sajjan today announced that the Royal Canadian Navy will receive a sixth Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ship from Irving Shipyards. The Government of Canada is acquiring the Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ships (AOPS) to bolster the Royal Canadian Navy’s capabilities while equipping its women and men with versatile and reliable vessels to complete their vital missions, he said.

Members of Canadian Special Operations Forces Command and the RCAF will conduct a military training event at the Uplands site of Canadian Forces Support Unit (Ottawa) on October 3, 2018. Residents can expect increased noise and low-level flying of CH-146 Griffon and CH-147F Chinook helicopters during this training.

Outreach programs have been designed to build bridges into Indigenous communities in Canada and to raise awareness among Indigenous people of potential military or civilian careers with the CAF and the Department of National Defence. Upon successful completion and if they wish to do so, graduates can pursue a career in the CAF Primary Reserve Force, Regular Force or work in a civilian occupation with DND.

Representatives from industry and government joined Seaspan Shipyards as they celebrated the start of construction on the first Joint Support Ship for the Royal Canadian Navy. Defence Minister Harjit S. Sajjan participated in a steel-cutting ceremony.

Exercise Maple Flag, the Royal Canadian Air Force’s largest and most complex international training event of the year, begins next week in Cold Lake, Alberta. Taking place from June 11 – 22, Exercise Maple Flag will bring together nearly 1200 CAF personnel in participant or supporting roles, along with 540 personnel from allied nations along with multiple aircraft types.

The remains of a Canadian First World War soldier found at the site of a construction project in Lens, France, have been identified as Private John (Jack) Henry Thomas. At the age of 28, as member of the 26th Canadian Infantry Battalion (New Brunswick), he was fighting the Battle of Hill 70 when he was killed on 19 August 1917.

DND and the Canadian Armed Forces have identified the remains of three Canadian First World War soldiers found near the village of Vendin-le-Vieil, France, as Private William Del Donegan, Private Henry Edmonds Priddle, and Sergeant Archibald Wilson.

Defence Minister Harjit S. Sajjan will be in Colorado Springs to attend the NORAD and U.S. Northern Command  (USNORTHCOM) Change of Command ceremony. USAF General Terrence J. O'Shaughnessy will replace outgoing Commander General Lori Robinson, who has provided exemplary leadership since 2016.
