After successful sea trials in March of this year, Naval Group delivered its first Gowind 2500 corvette to the Egyptian Navy today. The ceremony took place in Lorient, France, in the presence of Admiral Ahmed Khaled, commander in chief of the Egyptian Navy, Hervé Guillou, President and CEO of Naval Group and senior officials of the French Navy and the French armament procurement agency.
This vessel, named El Fateh, is the first of four Gowind 2,500-ton corvettes to be delivered under the €1B contract signed in 2014. Egypt's contract with Naval Group includes an option for two more.
Naval Group trained Egyptian shipyard staff at its site in Lorient during construction of the first vessel. The three following units will be built by Egyptian partner Alexandria Shipyard. All technical data required for the construction of the corvettes as well as necessary components will be transferred by Naval Group to its Egyptian partner. Alexandria Shipyard began cutting steel for its first Gowind 2500 corvette on 16 April 2016.
Total orders stand today at 10 Gowind 2500 corvettes ordered so far by international navies.
