A series of ground based tests have been completed at Finmeccanica-Alenia Aermacchi in Turin-Caselle and at BAE Systems in Warton, Lancashire, in readiness for Eurofighter Typhoon flight trials with MBDA’s Storm Shadow cruise missile, due to take place in the UK later this year.
Airbus A400M in Tom Cruise movie
The upcoming new Mission: Impossible movie, Rogue Nation, features a dangerous stunt by Tom Cruise, in which he runs across a taxiing Airbus A400M and then clings on as it takes off. The movie will be released on July 31st.
Egypt buys French FREMM
The Egyptian Navy took delivery of the French FREMM, currently named Normandie.
A330 MRTT selected by Korea
The Airbus A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport, powered by Rolls-Royce, has been selected by the Republic of Korea as its future air-to-air refuelling and transport aircraft after an open and objective competition. According to Pablo Molina, “the A330 MRTT has won every tanker competition since it entered the market, and has now been selected by nine nations plus the European Defence Agency.”

Lockheed Martin Canada wins AOPS contract
Lockheed Martin Canada has been awarded the implementation subcontract (valued at more than C$170M) as command and surveillance system integrator for the Royal Canadian Navy’s new class of Patrol Ships, by Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ships (AOPS) Prime Contractor, Irving Shipbuilding. As one of Irving’s Tier 1 suppliers for delivering the AOPS vessels as part of the National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy (NSPS), Lockheed Martin Canada is responsible for key integration of data and information sources to increase the ships’ situational awareness and provide command, control and decision support at all levels of command for the new vessels.
Airbus and PAL sign collaboration LOI
