A new Israeli unity government has been sworn in with Benjamin Netanyahu returning for a fifth stint as Prime Minister and arch-rival rival Benny Gantz as his deputy. The deal ended a long-standing political deadlock but the new government is pressing on with an internationally condemned but U.S.-backed plan to annex part of the occupied West Bank.

Eight companies have been selected by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration to develop technology and standards for tracking unmanned aerial vehicles and their operators as part of a new regulatory regime. Drones would be tagged with unique radio wave identifiers accessible by air traffic control towers, law enforcement and the public to improve safety and accountability in controlled airspace.

The head of the British parliament’s defence committee wants clarification of reports that Republicans in the Senate want a ban on deployment of military aircraft to countries which open their telecom networks to Chinese technologies. Tobias Ellwood has warned his Secretary of State for Defence, Ben Wallace, that “even the airing of such disagreements between us and our closest security ally is unhelpful in a time when global stability is at the lowest it has been for a generation.”

Officials at NATO headquarters in Brussels are using the COVID-19 experience as a potential learning exercise to prepare better for the next pandemic. “Resilience is . . . enshrined in Article 3 of our treaty,” says Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. “We have baseline requirements, guidelines for national resilience, including health and dealing with mass casualties.”

However, the World Health Organization continues to suggest that masks should be worn only by persons who are displaying symptoms, have tested positive or are caring for others.

Boeing Co. has withdrawn from a $4.2-billion deal to buy Brazil-based Embraer's commercial aircraft division. The U.S. giant accused Embraer of having not met conditions for finalizing the sale but the São Paulo-based company countered that Boeing’s financial difficulties were the reason.

British intelligence agencies have been told they require computer assistance to counter a variety of threats. The Royal United Services Institute also says new artificial intelligence capabilities are critical to identifying criminal as well as military threats before they become reality.
