Bud joined the RCMP in 1976 and has served from the Atlantic to the Pacific, the far north and points between. He has been responsible for Federal Policing in British Columbia, served as Operations Officer for the Lower Mainland District in BC, the Officer in Charge (Upper Fraser Valley and Chilliwack), and a Patrol Duty Officer in Surrey. In October 2007, Assistant Commissioner Mercer was chosen as the Chief Operating Officer for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, Integrated Security Unit.
